9A: Continuing My Opportunity Research
Who: Throughout this new set of interviews,
there are not a lot of plus size women who fall outside the boundary. The women
who do fall out of the boundary, are just the women who are not looking for
couture evening wear, ready-to-wear evening gowns etc. they are satisfied with
what is being offered in retail stores today or feel they’re need for gowns is
a real need but more of a want.
What: My service will provide more options
for plus size women however it will not solve the problem in this industry.
Why: I don’t believe the underlying cause
of the outsiders’ need differ than people who are inside the boundary because
they both need evening gowns, it is just that the only differing factor is how
much the consumer cares.
Description: After talking to five new
women, what I gathered from these interviews were that after going so many
years without consistently being pleased, they are fed up with searching and
searching for gowns. They are now in a certain place in their lives where the
only gown they’ll really be worried about is their wedding gown. Although this wasn’t
specifically what everyone said it was the consensus. For example, one woman
stated that she would end up finding a gown however it would not fit on a
certain area of her body. After this repeatedly happening, she decided she wouldn’t
wear gowns anymore just jumpsuits. After her saying this, it solidified by want
for a formal ready-to-wear line that offers beautiful, sophisticated clothing
but not in gowns. Because of these repeat mistakes some women just don’t wear
gowns anymore so they would be the women who would fall outside of the boundary
but because we are offering it in our ready-to-wear line it forces them inside
the boundary once again.

ReplyDeleteI like how you realize that not everyone will be attracted to your opportunity. However, I also like how you provide a solution for that problem as well. Yes, not every woman will want an evening gown because they are tired of looking for one, but you can provide other options for them outside of evening gowns. I believe that if a good way to handle a business, as without your customers, your opportunity will not be successful. Overall, I believe your idea will go very far!

ReplyDeleteI think your opportunity is great, but like you said there are a lot of women that are comfortable with the options they are currently being offered. Do you think that offering more than gowns would change the minds of some of the women outside the boundary? How do these women feel about the plus size clothing in terms of everyday wear that's being offered in stores?
It is great that you are able to identify that not every plus size woman will find your opportunity useful. Also it is true that your solution will not solve the plus size problem in entire fashion industry. Although I do believe that it will contribute to slowly solving the problem at hand. Bouncing off of what Jarnesha asked, "Do you think that offering more than gowns would change the minds of some of the women outside the boundary?" ,IDENTITY could be what brings the women who gave up on evening gowns hope again.
